Tullamore Arts Centre _ Competition Entry

The design sets out to make a public building with a quiet presence equivalent to that of the mill buildings of the town. The building steps out to the east, addressing the town. The theatre opens up to an outdoor auditorium to the north at the canal. To the west the art workshops and café stretch into the park. The south block holds a sunken gallery space, overlooked by the street. The burnt timber facing on a solid timber super-structure talks back to the black Mill building in view across the public space to the south.
